The Pilton Story

The Pilton Story is a project to collect and make available the history of the Pilton area of Barnstaple in North Devon, England.

We are collecting memories, tales, documents, recordings and photographs of a written history dating back over 1000 years to pre-Norman England.  This will help in researching, recording and explaining that history. Our searchable database has video, photographic, audio and document content and the more interesting items collected will be summarised on five Themes pages under the headings People, Buildings, Objects, Stories and Art.  The material is already available as a resource for visitors and local people and schools through a new community archive space in Pilton Church Hall and on-line

The project to deliver the space and equipment started in November 2011 with funding from North Devon District Council, Barnstaple Town Council and Pilton Church Hall supplemented by fund-raising by the community and the work of a team of volunteers.  It went live on 15th March 2012.  The official opening ‘Pilton Church Hall Celebrates the Opening of The Pilton Story’ was by The Rt Rev Michael Langrish, Bishop of Exeter, on 28th March 2012.
