Milton Abbas Local History Group

We have inherited about 2000 documents, articles and photographs of Milton Abbas from a private collection. These date from 1771 to the present.

Most important are the original manuscript books of the Overseers of the Poor from 1771 to 1816. These have now been transcribed into searchable spreadsheets. Advice on putting these 30,000 records into a free database would be appreciated. We have catalogued most of this material into a spreadsheet, using the guidelines of this website.

We have a number of projects underway, including the impact of the move of the thriving market town into a secluded side valley by Joseph Damer, Lord Milton and Capability Brown in the 1780s.

See our website for much more information.
