Bartons' History Group

An archive containing local history items relating to the three North Oxfordshire villages of Steeple, Middle and Westcote Barton.

The physical archive consists of filing cabinets containing documents, photographs and artefacts. The electronic archive contains digital scans of some of the documents and photographs as well as additional digital-only items. A slowly changing selection of this material is made available on our website, www.bartonshistorygroup.org.uk.

The material mainly relates to the villages from Victorian times onwards, however copies of the two parish registers (baptisms, marriages and burials) go back much further. Earliest documents are copies of Elizabethan wills and early parish records.

Parish registers, village hall and church documents, 3500 village and family photographs, family genealogies, Wills and legal documents, as well as villager ‘memories’ are stored.
