Skelmersdale Heritage Society

Skelmersdale Heritage Society is a community group which researches and publicises the history of the Lancashire town of Skelmersdale. From its early origins as a small farming village listed in the Domesday book to its expansion as a mining town during the 19th century to its transformation into a New Town in the 1960s.

We hold a large archive of photographs of the town as well as over thirteen hours of audio interviews covering various aspects of its history and historic documents from the last one hundred years.

We also run well attended monthly meetings with presentations about the history of the town and the surrounding areas.
