Treasures in the Archive "On the Road"

At Black Cultural Archives we have been considering how we can make researchers and users of Black British history around Britain, more aware of our archive and its holdings. Over the last year, our series of lunchtime Treasures in the Archive talks have proved very popular.

We are therefore putting together a 6 month pilot project for taking our free 30 minute Treasures in the Archive talks on tour, starting in May 2016 until September, with the aim to deliver 1 talk a month at different venues.

We have three speakers available including Victoria Northriddge, Emma Harrison and Melba Wilson [one of our volunteers]. We can provide talks on a variety of subjects including Phillis Wheatley, the beginnings of Autograph, Brixton Black Women’s Group, George Scipio Africanus and Hogarth’s Blacks. We will provide these talks for free, but all that we would ask is that some money could be provided towards travel expenses.
