Gorleston Virtual Museum

Gorleston-on-Sea, is still a traditional unspoilt Edwardian seaside resort but despite its own heritage has no permanent museum which prompted me to produce a virtual heritage museum which is open 24 hours a day every day. There are no "bells and whistles" or gimmicks it is just like reading chapters in a well illustrated book.

www.gorleston-heritage.co.uk virtual museum covers many subjects with numerous photographs and text such as the rise of our resort from its Edwardian origins to the present day. The riverside and fishing industry which includes the Hewett "Short Blue" story - once the largest fleet of sailing trawlers in the world. Buildings which are part of our heritage. The rise and fall of a shopping centre in Bells Road. The story of Matthes, once a major employer in the town. From village to town. Gorleston heroes and more including a page of News and events plus many links to other interesting local heritage websites.

Joan is our genealogist who will help with your Gorleston ancestors free of charge and I am delighted to help with any information you may want about Gorleston's heritage.

I welcome any items and photographs you would like me to put on the website, under your onw name if you wish, which can be attached to an email or copies posted to me. Please contact me via one of the email links. Your comments and suggestions are also very welcome. Our community and friends are the lifeblood of such a website.
