History and purpose

The National Council on Archives is jointly supported by The National Archives and the Museums, Libraries and Archives Council

The Community Archives website is run by the Community Archives and Heritage Group (CAHG).

CAHG is a national group which aims to support and promote community archives in the UK.  We bring together bodies and organisations concerned with Community Archives, and provides a forum for the regular exchange of views and information.

Since 2006, we have organised three successful conferences and set up this website. We have also developed a set of cataloguing guidelines for community archives and we are planning an award scheme to run next year. We also distribute an e-mail newsletter.

CAHG was previously known as the Community Archive Development Group (CADG).

CAHG is affiliated to the National Council on Archives.
