The Laindon and District Community Archive was set up with funding from the Lottery Heritage Fund and in partnership with Essex Libraries and Essex Record Office. The site went live on the 26 March 2011 and it will tell the storey of the evolution of the old Parishes of Laindon, Dunton, Langdon Hills and Lee Chapel and the people who lived and live there.  We will have to include the southern end of the Parish of Little Burstead south of the tributary of the River Crouch and north of Dunton Road as it encompasses a large part of Laindon.

These Communities have seen many changes over the years including the depopulation of Dunton Plotlands and the change of Laindon High Road from the Heart and resource centre for the community to a road through a mainly residential area.

Since starting the Community Archive project it has become evident that the old community spirit has not been lost even though a lot of the original families moved or were forced out of the community by the development of Basildon and many new families have moved into the housing estates created by the development.

We aim with the help of the members of our community old and new to ensure that the story of the history and evolution of Laindon and District is recorded and preserved for our and other communities.
