Voices Gloucester

Gloucester

Our living history, told by you.

Voices Gloucester is a charity and community archive celebrating Gloucester’s history, culture and identity through the power of storytelling.

Our year-round programme is created by people from every walk of life who share a passion for storytelling and a deep sense of pride in Gloucester. We have a diverse community panel whose members decide the priority projects we work on, which can range from historical talks to works of art, from theatre to spoken word, from poetry to podcasts.

Past projects have included exhibitions on the traveller community; films on elements of the ‘first black’ achievements in the city; interactive map of the city with links to 360 degree tours of historic buildings and interviews with the cleaners at heritage buildings, and much more.

We aim to create material (films, oral histories, podcasts, photographs, guides) for permanent preservation to document the history of our varied communities, so our material is contemporary 21st century. If we discover older archival material we generally arrange transfer to Gloucestershire Archives, and also donate some of our newly commissioned material for permanent preservation.
