The David J Wood's Collection of Oral History

I started making Oral History recordings about 1983.

I do not make recordings about one place, but on a wide range of subjects.

There are four different types of transcripts on the site www.oralhistory.co.uk

Transcripts from recordings made by me. Transcripts range from a man who was born in a workhouse, a Policeman during the last war, a lady who was 100 years old next birthday.

Transcripts called ” Cheips Wi Od Stockiners” this is the name of a series of five articles. ” Cheips Wi’ Old Stockiners ” was first published by the Hinckley Times in the 1890s.

Visitor’s History, transcripts sent to me by visitors to my site, which were included on the site.

Lastly, there were a great number of reports written on the working classes, for social reform in the 1800s. How they lived and worked etc. In a report on Hinckley, a local person recorded all the statements in the words of the person interviewed and the interviewer.

These have been retyped, and show just under what conditions the workingman and his family lived in the 1800s.
