Shildon History Recall Society
The Shildon History Recall Society was established to collate, restore, reserve and archive documents, photographs and artefacts pertaining to the town of Shildon. Their photographic and document archive is accessible by appointment.
They hope that the archive will benefit future generations and that it will educate and inform school children, adults and other community groups about their town and it’s history. This also includes Shildon’s railway heritage – Shildon had the first public passenger railway in the world.
The Society has a large archive of information, photographs and photographic slides pertaining to the town, and also a record of burials in the West Road Cemetary from 1922 – 2000. They have also produced a DVD called ‘Shildon Our Town’.
