Our Dacorum

Our Dacorum is part of the Herts Memories network of websites. It has been funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund as part of the Making Memories project.

There has been a settlement at Hemel Hempstead since Anglo-Saxon times, but the town expanded after the Second World War when it was designated a New Town as part of the government’s plans to provide homes for Londoners bombed out in the Blitz. The town is possibly best known locally for its ‘Magic Roundabout’.

The website is a place to share and enjoy photos, memories and historical research about the whole of the Dacorum borough: Berkhamsted, Bovingdon, Chipperfield, Flamstead, Hemel Hempstead, Kings Langley, Markyate and Tring.

The site has been developed by a volunteer group working with Dacorum Heritage Trust, Hertfordshire Libraries and Hertfordshire Archives and Local studies.
