Friends of the Gainsborough Cemeteries and Chapel

The Friends group was set-up to help preserve the General Cemetery and the North Warren (Non-Conformist) Cemetery with the kind help of Gainsborough Town Council.

The General Cemetery is situated on Cox’s Hill in Gainsborough, Lincolnshire, and the North Warren Cemetery is on Ropery Road. Both cemeteries have graves recognised by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission.

We have two main projects – Commonwealth War Graves and the restoration of family headstones of WWI servicemen. We can help family historians who are looking for relatives buried in the General and North Warren Cemeteries.

Twice a year in May (for the West Lindsey Churches Festival) and in November (for Remembrance Sunday) we open the General Cemetery Chapel. We have the full cemetery records available for the public to look through, an exhibition and we take guided walks around the cemetery.
