Friction Archive

The Edge, Birmingham

Friction Arts has created socially engaged projects and programmes in Birmingham since opening in 2004.

Friction Arts is establishing Friction Archives which will seek to acquire material which is of historical interest but is in danger of neglect, loss or destruction. We’re interested in Friction, The Edge (where Friction is based), people we work with and their history, conserving and making accessible material and stories relating to:

  • Significant changes at Friction and the Edge
  • Artists and staff at Friction
  • Projects and people working with us, their lives and their experiences at Friction and how Friction affects their lives
  • Stories from the wider community – research, connections with existing Birmingham
  • Archives, other stories and projects which relate to Friction’s objectives

Over 6000 items, largely digital including film, photography, artwork, stories, documents, booklets…
