British Karting Heritage Project
“The history of British karting has been written… but can it be read?” The ‘British Karting Heritage Project’ is a personal ‘not-for-profit’ project intended to preserve and promote the history and heritage of British karting, both for today’s enthusiasts and future generations of racers.
To realise this vision, I have formally acquired the assets, intellectual property [IP], trademarks, and copyright for both ‘Karting’ and ‘Kart & Superkart’ magazines and related publications from the previous publishers/owners.
Over time and through the acquisition of the former publishers’ assets, I have painstakingly sourced and amassed a vast archive of karting magazines, books, and other publications, including first editions and various autographed copies from as far back as 1960, to form several near complete sets of each magazine.
I now have a vast repository of over 2,000 UK, US, and foreign karting magazines along with associated early books, programmes, videos, etc which have all been carefully catalogued, preserved, and properly stored on racking in an environmentally controlled outbuilding, specially converted for the purpose in the Scottish Borders.
The karting community has supported the project with over £4,000 in donations to enable the scanning and digitisation of all these heritage materials so that they can be publicly accessed online by future generations of motorsport enthusiasts.
The final phase of the project will involve building a bespoke archival website where the archive can be easily viewed using the latest ‘flip page’ software applications.
The project’s aim is to “Give British Karting History a Future!”
