Band On The Wall

For over 200 years, Band on the Wall has played a distinctive part in the musical landscape of Manchester’s heritage. Our archives tell a story of social and cultural development including diversity and integration in the heart of Manchester’s historic market quarter.

Prior to our recent redevelopment, we discovered a hoard of ephemera stashed away in the attic. The collection, dating from the late 20th-early 21st century, relates to previous live performances and includes posters, leaflets, and concert tickets as well as meeting reports and contracts. This comprises approximately 92 linear metres of material. The first stage is to catalogue over 1000 digitised scans of tickets and posters.

The collection is significant to the history of music and communities in Manchester. We endeavour to grow the collection by seeking photos, memories and mementoes from those who have visited or played at this iconic venue.
