All Killearn Archives
The All Killearn Archives ( AKA ) is a volunteer group, formed in 2006, which operates as part of Killearn Community Futures Company (KCFC). KCFC is a Scottish Registered Charity No. SC035472. The aim of AKA is to collect together items and documents relating to the history of the village and to make them locally available for researchers.
Items are continually being added to the collection which currently includes items, mainly dating from the mid 1880s to the present, with some earlier material. We have a wide range of material in both physical and digital formats. These include photo-albums, minutes books from village organisations, scanned images of photographs of local interest, digitised interment records, physical and digitised Valuation Rolls, digitised Census Records, historic maps of the area, documents relating to local organisations ( some of which no longer exist ) abstracts from the local newspapers from SWI etc. At present we have only a partial record of our holdings, which includes several hundred items, and need to produce a comprehensive catalogue.
A collection of our artifacts are on display in six cabinets within Killearn Village Hall. The items on display are changed at intervals. There are also a some large historic photographs, two large embroideries, one made by the Primary School children and one by a number of local residents, on display in the Hall. Most of our collection is held in the Village Hall storage room or, in the case of digital archives, on computer. While it is not directly accessible to the public, information from the archive can be obtained by contacting AKA. We are always happy to try to answer enquiries using our resources and have provided information to enquirers from America, Africa and Australia in addition to the UK.
