Via an accessible website, we intend to create a directory and living history of our village in Eyke, Suffolk.

It’s a small village that is only now beginning to grow beyond its scope in the late 1800s. after which it began to contract. We are using all available types of archives – the obvious ones such as census data and maps. but then adding news stories from the British Newspaper Archive, family trees, social media interactions and memories. We also have a wealth of incredible historical research done by past villagers and some interesting artefacts such as a unique Church key.

This digitisation process will also allow some archive material to find a permanent home in Suffolk after we have finished digitising.

I think we have about 700 newspaper articles, all the census and registers, some 1000 Facebook posts to converts, about 500 pages of digital scans so far and a few preliminary interviews.
