Supplementary Education for Black British Youth—an idea whose time has passed?

The Generation Gap—fact or fiction?

The 2010 conference will highlight archives from the Huntley collections on supplementary education. Why did Caribbean parents fight to provide supplementary school education for their children? What has been the educational experience of Black youth from the 1960s to the present?

We have invited young people to share their experiences and reflections. The conference will screen some films made by students including Postcode Wars, a documentary film made by the Black Experience Archive Trust (BEAT) students.

The day includes:   Talks; Film Screening; Groundings Sessions; Readings and Music; Children’s Workshops; Exhibitions

Speakers: BEAT students;  Leslie Braine-Ikomi;  Dr. Eden Charles;  Heather Daulphin;  Professor Harry Goulbourne;  Dr. Beverley Goring; Marge Lowhar Andrew Mohammed;  Laurie O’Garro;  Colin Prescod; Esther Stanford;  Tony Sewell  and Linda Tomlinson Readings And Music: Jacob Ross;  Hatshepsut Huntley;  WAPPY students; Keith Waithe & The Macusi Players
