Manchester District Music Archive (www.mdmarchive.co.uk) is planning an event in celebration of Gay Music Culture in Greater Manchester.
The event will be hosted by cultural commentator and writer Jon Savage and is scheduled for February 2010. The venue is yet to be decided. It will take the form of a day event, in which Jon Savage will interview a panel of key figures from across the years, followed by a club night with some of Manchester's biggest DJs from the scene.
This event will culminate in an online exhibition on the MDMArchive website, containing streamed film of the event; interviews; scores of artefacts; and an in-depth essay by Jon Savage.
We are currently on the look-out for anyone who can contribute to this project. Do you have any artefacts (such as tickets, flyers, press articles, photos, etc) or recollections relating to Gay Music Culture in Greater Manchester? Would you be prepared to be interviewed on the subject? Do you belong to a community group that may be relevant to the project? Did you run a gay-friendly club or bar in days gone by? Are you a gay musician, DJ or performer currently working in Greater Manchester?
