Sustaining Community Archives

Building on the success of its earlier conferences, the Community Archives & Heritage Group (CAHG) is holding a third national conference for and about community archives on Thursday 18 June 2009.

Exploring sustainability

The theme this year will be 'Sustaining Community Archives' and we will be exploring issues that determine sustainability and learn from groups who have achieved sustainable working in areas of conservation, digital cataloguing, the creation of funding opportunities through the exploitation of archives (including copyright issues), and networking.

Keynote address and news exchange forum

Ed Vaizey, Shadow Minister for Culture, will give the keynote address and you will have the opportunity to tell everyone what your group has been doing during a news exchange forum later in the day.

(Update 21 May - Please note that the limit for speakers during the news exchange forum has now been reached, no more requests to speak can be taken)

Who is the conference for?

The conference is aimed at anyone with an interest in community archives, from professional archivists, librarians, curators and heritage workers to small independent community groups.

Venue

The conference will again be co-hosted with University College London, School of Library, Archive and Information Studies and is free to attend. Lunch and refreshments will be provided. Coffee and registration from 10am, with a 10.30am start.

Please note that due to the large number of requests from groups wishing to give short presentations we have decided to extend the programme and close at 4.30pm and not 4pm as previously stated. We apologies to those who have already made travel arrangements and may need to leave early.
