Community Access to Archives project

Heritage Lottery fund
Grants are available from the Heritage Lottery Fund for community archive projects, both under the Awards for All programme (up to £10,000) and the Your Heritage programme.

The HLF also provides advice and help with developing a project, including a very useful set of guidance notes on developing projects - look for the one on projects involving Archives, People and Communities.

Other sources of funding
The Community Access to Archives Project (CAAP) produced an extensive list of funders, which you can download below. The list is intended to act as a general guidance tool only, and you should bear in mind that it was compiled in October 2004 and the situation may have changed. Not all of the suggested funding streams are known to have funded community archive projects; some have been selected on the basis of their focus on a particular locality or type of project funded. Some are able to provide sufficient funds to cover the majority of project costs whilst others are only able to cover certain aspects such as the cost of basic equipment or training.
