The RBS Archive forms a unique resource for the comprehension of technical studies in commissions, competitions, exhibitions, and selection of sculpture from 1904. It documents the activities of an independent membership's association that became one of the national arbiters of taste in sculptural matter throughout the 20th century, acting as an advisor for professional sculptors and others.
The archive forms the recorded memory of the Society's membership and its activities. In addition to the official archive based on recorded materials of the Society's activities and the Minutes it includes more than 500 past-members' files which contain biographies, correspondence letters, press cuttings, and photographs of their works.
The Archivist is able to answer written, telephone and email enquiries relating to the subject areas described above. This service is free despite the fact that the Society receives no public funding. The archive is open every Tuesday and Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Please book an appointment for any visit.
