Oakridge Lynch, Gloucestershire

Exhibition of archives in the Village Hall

Oakridge Lynch lies about 5 miles from Stroud and is in the parish of Bisley. It is situated on the edge of the Cotswolds and was in the 18th and 19th centuries the home of handloom weavers. There are 5 villages/hamlets, Oakridge Lynch, Far Oakridge, Bournes Green, Waterlane and Tunley.

In 2005 a book on the history of Oakridge was published with funding from the Local Heritage Initiative. During the course of researching the book a large quantity of documents and photographs were collected and these are now stored in a number of folders. Photographs are currently being scanned so that a digital archive is being created.

There are currently about 20 folders of copies of documents and 5 photo albums most relating to the 19th and 20th centuries

The Oakridge History Group meets regularly and is now researching the history of the houses in Oakridge and adding to the archive
