Durham Miners Heritage Group

Durham Miners Heritage Group was officially formed in 2006 and, with the aid of a grant from Awards for All, Heritage Lottery Fund are now able to provide an exhibition of mining memorabilia which has been collected over the last 20 years by members of the group.
The focus of the exhibition is based on the many aspects of the Coal Miners work, with displays on Shot firing, Mines rescue service, items from the engineers workshops, and the many associated tools of the trade like Picks, Shovels, Drills, Miners Lamps etc. The displays are accompanied by a major art exhibition from former Durham Miner Mr. Ron Gray (artist and sculptor) with paintings and drawings being displayed throughout the building. Also on display is video footage showing the Miners Lodge Banners accompanied by brass bands throughout the streets of Durham at the annual Durham Miners Gala.
This exhibition is dedicated to the former Mineworkers of the Durham Coalfield in the North East of England. Durham Miners Heritage Group are members of The National Association of Mining History Organisations.
