This archive is part of Commanet: the community archive network .

Commanet is a registered charity that helps communities to set up and develop local archives using specially designed Commanet software.

This archive includes photographs of various colleries in the Kent area, including Snowden, Tilmanstone, Betteshanger and the colliery at Shakespear Cliff. As well as photographs of the mines and associated gear, there are those which reveal the social lives of the workforce, including pictures of bands, choirs and a street party.
