Commanet is a registered charity that helps communities to set up and develop local archives using specially designed Commanet software.

The village of Aylesham, in the Dover area, was established in 1926. It was built to provide housing for the newly sunk coal mine at nearby Snowdown Colliery. Miners from all parts of the UK, notably South Wales, Scotland and the northeast, seeking better wages and safer conditions, travelled to the village to work there. For more than 50 years Aylesham developed in relative isolation from the indiginous Kent community and as such developed a distinguishable, individual local dialect.
