Cambridgeshire Community Archives Network
Cambridgeshire
The Cambridgeshire Community Archives Network (CCAN) is a ground breaking countywide project based around a lively network of around 50 community groups dedicated to building a fascinating online local history resource for Cambridgeshire. Over 14,000 images now appear on the www.ccan.co.uk website, supported by other exciting features such as Hotspots (a feature linking images together across time) plus audio and video clips.
Staff from Cambridgeshire's Libraries, Archives and Information Service initially assisted in CCAN's development, but the project has now been handed over to be run by its own volunteers, guided by a totally voluntary steering committee. Cambridgeshire County Council (CCC) continues to support the project by providing the CCAN website to the network as its webhost. CCC can offer website provision and webhosting services to other interested parties. A sister site to CCAN already operates in Norfolk at www.commanet.org/remembernorfolk.
