From History to Her Story

Lives of Yorkshire women

History to Her Story is a ground-breaking project undertaken by West Yorkshire Archive Service with funding from the New Opportunities Fund.

Celebrating the lives of Yorkshire women from 1100 to the present day, it presents rarely seen archive material in an innovative and interesting way.

The website reflects the diversity of women's lives and commemorates the contributions they have made to all areas of society, including education, politics, music and literature. For the first time women's personal experiences are accessible to all through their letters, diaries, notes and medical case books.

Material has been selected from the West Yorkshire Archive Service, University of Huddersfield Archive, Bronte Society, Hull Central Library Archive, Yorkshire Archaeological Society, Leeds Libraries and the Brotherton Library, University of Leeds. It has then been microfilmed and digital images made from the film up loaded to the website. Rare and unique historical material can now be viewed by people in their own homes without the problems of manual handling of documents.
