Discover the treasures of the archives in 2007!

Following the success of 2006’s Neighbourhoods and Woods Campaign, which saw a record number of events taking place in archives throughout the UK, Archive Awareness is looking forward to bringing you even more exciting activities during 2007.

The theme of this year’s campaign is ‘Freedom and Liberty’ with events taking place primarily during Autumn 2007. For more information and ideas on the theme and how it can be related to this year’s Bicentenary of the Parliamentary Abolition of the Trans-Atlantic British Slave Trade visit here

Over a hundred archives all across the UK are in the process of planning showcases, open days, workshops and many other activities to celebrate their holdings of original documents to tell stories of freedom to another generation in the most creative and inspiring ways possible.

We have also teamed up with Museums and Galleries Month for the first time this year to provide Archive Awareness Family History Workshops in UK-wide museums and galleries this May. Look out for workshops on our events database!

Find out what events are happening in your area now on our events directory.

If you would like any information on this year’s Archive Awareness activities and how you can get involved please contact Elise Oliver at elise.oliver@nationalarchives.gov.uk.
