Formby Civic Society History Group

Since its establishment in 1953, the Society has been working on the history of Formby. During that time it has built up a considerable archive consisting of maps, photographs and documents together with a useful local history library. The archive also includes the Sibley Collection of over 700 topographical drawings and watercolours together with over 2000 related transparencies. The maps include a copy of the original Formby Tithe Map, together with a digital-indexed schedule in addition to the original card index.
Using these resources, past and present members have written and published some important historical studies. These include Viking Village. (Edith Kelly, 1973) and Britain’s First Life Boat Station, (B. and R. Yorke, 1982). Other publications include several illustrated histories and ‘Formby, Then & Now’, published by the History Press, 2012.

Our resources are often used by local students and are available to all bona fide researchers, but particularly our members.
