Earby Heritage Archive

The Earby and District Local History Society was founded in 1995 and since its inception has been collecting documents, books, photographs and other artefacts relating to the Earby district.

It was only at the end of 2011 that we had the opportunity to bring the archive together in one place when office space at the local community centre became available.

During the last year a group of volunteers from the society has been collating and cataloging the archive to make it accesible to any interested party.

The archive was officially opened by the Chairman of Earby Town Council during a Heritage Open Day event last September.

The collection contains some 5000 photographic images, a 2500 item eclectic mix of documents (some original some copies) and a growing audio visual collection including oral history recordings and copies on DVD of cine film and videos.

We are also building up a family history section which includes transcripts of local parish registers and census returns, and we are encouraging family historians to deposit copies of their reserach for future use.

The archive is generally open on Friday mornings for 10-00am to noon or be appointment by contacting the Society on info@earbyhistory.co.uk

The society web site address is www.earbyhistory.co.uk
