Cheslyn Hay & District Local History Society

Cheslyn Hay & District Local History Society was set up in 1994 and has grown in strength over the years. In 2010 the society acquired an archives room to the rear of the Salem Methodist Church Hall which became open to the Local Community and Society Members every Tuesday from 10am till 3pm.

Since the Archives opening the Committee members have been busy cataloguing and indexing the entire 18 years worth of Documents, memories, family trees and written histories, which include over 8500+ photo’s all associated with the people and history of Cheslyn Hay. Due to the volume of the archive material being catalogued the documents have been organised into 29 separate Volumes and the Photo’s have been put into 40+ albums.

The final part of the reorganising of these archives has been to transfer this catalogue onto a searchable database which is accessible at the archives on Tuesdays. All Funding needed for this project has come from membership subscriptions and an annual local history book produced by a dedicated team of voluntary researchers.  The official opening of the archives was by the Chairman of the Cheslyn Hay Parish Council Mac Harris on 15th February 2010.
